The LEGO Group announced this week they will be acquiring BrickLink, the online marketplace for LEGO parts. This has sent shockwaves throughout the entire LEGO fan community.

New Article: Grey, Bluish Gray, Stone Grey, or Blay?
On some LEGO Facebook groups, I’ve seen posts lately from people who are new to the hobby and confused by the names used for the shades of grey that LEGO makes. So I wrote an article explaining what happened in 2004 as LEGO rolled out the new colors which many people call “bluish” greys. (They’re not bluish! The old ones were yellowish!)
LDD Not So Dead After All?
After the news broke yesterday about LEGO Digital Designer (LDD) being discontinued, the following message was apparently posted on the Ambassador forum by LCE Team manager Tanja Friberg:
LEGO Digital Designer to be discontinued
Update 1/21: It appears that rumors of LDD’s death have been somewhat exaggerated.
The LEGO Digital Designer (LDD) software, available since 2004, is soon to be discontinued, according to reports. The following statement was issued by the LEGO AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) Relations Team:
LEGO makes a deal with Marvel too?!
I just posted about the new deal with DC Comics, and now I hear that LEGO’s Disney deal has expanded to include Marvel superheroes as well! So it looks like we’ll be getting Spider-Man back also. According to an article on stitchkingdom.com:
LEGO Batman is coming back, with reinforcements!
Good news for superhero fans! LEGO and DC Universe (aka DC Comics) have announced a new partnership made through Warner Brothers that will have LEGO making new sets featuring Batman and other heroes from the DC Universe. According to an article in Variety,

New Power Functions Remote Recall
I just got the following notice in my email from LEGO:
LEGO Ads found via Twitter
A collection of LEGO ads with some very clever pictures. I recently subscribed to the RSS feed (in Google Reader) for a search for “#lego” on Twitter. This is a great technique to follow “hashtags” that I learned on Amy Gharan’s blog.
LEGO survey of adult fans
This showed up in my email today. I filled out the survey, and encourage everyone else to do it too.
BrickArms Controversy in Mainstream Media
It would seem that BrickArms has garnered international attention. The article “Lego-Style Islamic Terrorist Figurine Sparks Outrage” appears on Fox News and similar articles appear in a number of other sources; see Google News report for the story for more.
The trouble with the LEGO fan community
The trouble with the LEGO fan community is that it takes all of the fun out of getting a new Shop-At-Home catalog. Not only is there nothing new that I haven’t seen, but I already own several of the things marked “new.” When I was a kid, a new LEGO catalog was a source of great delight…
BrickCon 2008 so far
BrickCon is going very well so far. There are tons of great models on display, many great deals to be had on LEGO, and some amazing news
RIP 9V Trains
Well, LEGO has finally made up their mind on the future of trains. Steve Witt has announced that the 9V system will be discontinued, to be replaced by IR-controlled, battery-powered trains.
Save 9V Trains Minfig Protest
In BayLUG‘s recent exhibit at the Museum of American Heritage (MoAH), Bruce Chamberlain set up a display of minifigs protesting to save the 9V trains line.
Interview with LEGO CEO
I know this was posted a couple of weeks ago but I only just now saw it for the first time. There’s an interview on TODAYonline with Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, the CEO of LEGO, around his recent trip to Singapore. He touches on a very important point for LEGO fans – is LEGO going to be obsolete like a typewriter, or a booming industry like books? Both have been challenged by newer technologies and media, but the typewriter industry is dead while books are selling better than ever. Can LEGO pull it off? What do you think?
