This is another repost, from the days when I was thinking about making a business out of LEGO Sculpture, like Eric Harshbarger. I later decided that would take too much fun out of it.

This is my first non-Pokémon sculpture. I have decided to switch to more original designs to avoid possible copyright/trademark infringement, and to make it possible to sell copies of my sculpture. If you are interested in buying a copy of the Teddy Bear (in your choice of colors) or commissioning an original work, please send me e-mail.

I brought this model to the BricksWest 2002 international LEGO conference at LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, CA in February 2002.

February 24, 2002: Passenger Transport

This hybrid rocket/jet aircraft takes off and lands like a plane, and the engines switch to rocket mode to reach orbit, where it docks with a space station or the Lunar Tour Vehicle for their next destination.

This uses the Docking System I devised for spacecraft.

February 24, 2002: Lunar Tour Vehicle

Part bus, part spacecraft, this vessell meets up with the Passenger Transport in Earth orbit and ferries them to the moon, where they can spend a week visiting the Apollo landing zones and other historical and natural wonders.

Its rockets pivot aft for flight, and downward for takeoff and landing. Inside are all the luxuries a traveler could want, plus facilities for the crew. A generous galley and head are included.

This uses the Docking System I devised for spacecraft.

This truck is for carrying sand, gravel, LEGO bricks, or similar material. A door in the bottom opens to allow dumping. I later rebuilt the trailer to produce a second version of this model.

This little café showed off some rare printed bricks and was good at filling small spaces on the BayLTC layouts.

This simple café kiosk has an espresso machine and cash register, and two tables to enjoy your coffee at.

This building was one of my first contributions to the BayLTC train layout, and the first one that I posted pictures of online.

This bus station has a waiting room and two lanes for buses to stop. There is also a traffic signal and cellular telephone relay tower included.

December 31, 2001: HoverThing Contest Entries

On my old site, these were four separate entries, but in reposting them I have combined them into one.

In August 2001, Paul Hartzog announced he was sponsoring a “HoverThing” contest. The Contest announcement and rules were posted on LUGNET and many people submitted entries, including myself. I didn’t win, but here are the models I built for the contest. The official contest website shows all the entries, including the winning one.

Pocket Rocket

Shown in both blue and black versions.

Hover Patrol

A simple police cruiser

Astro-Pumpkin

A very silly entry for the contest. The main point was to employ an unusual color scheme and to find a use for the angled part in the nose.

October 28, 2001: PB4Y-2 Privateer

This model is dedicated to the memory of my father, Robert H. Ward, who flew the PB4Y-2 on flare-dropping missions during the Korean War in the early 1950′s. He passed away on November 9, 2001. I built it in the fall of 2001. He never got to see it, but it was on display at his memorial service.

I brought this model to the October 2001 and January 2002 BayLUG meetings. I took pictures from those meetings, which can be seen on my site. Also, the the BayLUG website features pictures taken by others (October 2001 and January 2002)

On my old Web site/blog, bill.wards.net, I have a lot of LEGO postings which used brickshelf.com for image hosting. Although I copied all the images to Flickr some time back, I never updated the listings to point to the new image location. Now that ~~Brickshelf is going offline~~ (edit: it came back, but I still prefer Flickr), however, I need to do that. And rather than update them on the old site, I have decided to move them to Brickpile instead. This is the oldest LEGO posting on that site:

Unlike the rest of my models, this was not built using my own LEGO collection. During a trip to Germany in August 2001, I visited with some German LEGO fans and we built some accessories for their train layout.

More pictures from my trip to Germany can be found on my website in the travel section.
Pictures posted by Holger were on Brickshelf – not sure where to link to them now. But I have saved a copy of them, and may post them somewhere if he doesn’t.
